Lena Jo was a 2008 purchase at the Super Stakes Sale in Fort Worth. My daughter, Meredith, and I went over the sale with the express purpose of buying a 10 year old Dual Rey mare we thought would make a good brood mare. Instead, we came home the owners of a 4 year old show mare! Again, this wasn’t exactly what we had planned but it was the avenue by which we have become acquainted with Lee and Holly Francois of L&H Cutting.
When the gavel came down and we were the owners of Lena Jo, we immediately called our good friend Starkey Smith of Dekalb, Texas and asked him what we should do with this mare. Starkey never hesitated but told us to find Lee and Holly get them to take her home and evaluate her for 30 days. She already had over $9,000 LTE, all from a 4th place finish in the 2007 Limited Open Futurity. Lee and Holly agreed to take her and within the 30 days asked to begin entering her in competitions.
Lena Jo ended up winning over $6500 with Lee and Holly between May and November 2008, including 7th at The Non-Pro and the Open in Oklahoma in June and 13th and the Southern Futurity. There were a number of weekend events where she also excelled. The main accomplishment, however, was the relationship we’ve developed with the Fracois Family. Again, no accidents with our God…….ask Lee and Holly…..or ask us about how God has used our friendship.
Lena Jo was bred for a May 2010 foal to Athena Puddy Cat. Will be bred back to Smooth as A Cat and consigned to NRCHA Futurity sale, Reno, late Sept
